Woman Injured In Edgewater High Rise Fire
April 20, 2015 / By Edgeville BuzzOn elderly woman was injured in a small kitchen fire this afternoon. Her condition is still unknown.
The incident happened at the Breakers on the 5300 block of N. Sheridan in a 28th floor unit. The fire started around 10 a.m. and was extinguished by 10:30 a.m., however residents on that floor were asked to stay in their units until the smoke cleared.
According to reports, fire fighters came to the scene after a medical alert call was made. The responders arrived to thick smoke in the room. The woman was pulled out of the high rise and taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital.
The Breakers is a 31-story senior retirement complex. It is considered to be a fire-resistive building.
