An Edgewater woman was beaten, robbed and sexually assaulted early Friday morning in an alley on the 5600 North block of Kenmore, according to Chicago Police.  The incident occured around 5:40AM when the victim was walking in the alley and the suspect approached her from behind and hit her several times in the head.  He then proceeded to take all of her belongings and tried to sexually assault her.

Two men, a neighbor and a building security officer, came to her rescue after hearing the woman scream “Let go! Let go!” and seeing the man punch her in face, go through her pockets and slam her head into the pavement.  Police were called, but as the two men ran to help the attacker yelled in an accented voice to stay away and lunged towards the men before fleeing.

Police released the above sketch of the suspect, who is described as a black male, between 18-25 years old and 6 feet tall weighing 175.  Anyone with further info should contact area detectives at 312-744-8261.

This was a truly vicious assault. I’ve been assaulted and robbed, but never suffered such a beating as this. This terrible attack and the recent shootings in the 5600-5700 blocks N Winthrop, nearby, indicate that there’s a badly run apartment building in the 5700 block N Winthrop whose management needs to be hauled into housing court. One bad building could ruin a decade of progress and improvement in Edgewater- time for the neighbors to get very aggressive and call on the alderman to take action.
