Opening:  We’ve confirmed that a Papa John’s pizza will soon occupy the space pictured above on the southeast corner of Broadway and Balmoral.  Papa John’s a pizza chain popular on college campuses, first entered the Chicago market in 2010 with a store at 3927 N Lincoln and has been rapidly expanding throughout the city since.

Re-Opening:  St. Andrew’s Inn Chicago has announced that it is once again open as a full service restaurant and bar.  As we previously reported, the popular local watering hole lost its liquor license recently due to unpaid back taxes.  As a thank you to customers,  they’ll be hosting a complimentary sampling of their newly revised brunch and dinner menus on Tuesday, July 17, between 6 and 8pm.  In addition, you can grab a 10% off your next bill coupon here.

Closed:  Burger Stop (5318 N Broadway), which we reviewed in December, has closed its doors for good.  We’re not sure of specifics, but the place did not seem to be very busy, ever.

Delay:  Forever Yogurt (5309 N Clark) hit a snag with its plans to open in the former Paper Trails space in Andersonville this month.  According to a sign on their door they need to overhaul their electrical systems and they will open in a few weeks (no specific date was mentioned).  In the interim, to get your yogurt fix during this crazy heat check out Yogurt Avenue (5416 N Clark) right down the street or go to George’s (5306 N Clark) for ice cream or Lickity Split (6056 N Broadway) for frozen custard!

My husband will be very happy about the Papa John’s… He loves that place. As for Burger Stop, we had the food there once (via delivery) and it was really bad, so no surprise that they closed.

I’m feel like there’s going to be one too many yogurt places in the area once Forever Yogurt gets going.

Or  get your ice cream fix at Anna Held Soda Fountain Cafe at Bryn Mawr & Sheridan.  They’re now serving Homer’s Ice Cream!

As the one that reviewed them for the blog in December, the second round both the service and the food were so horrible it would have been a waste of time for me to compose a second review. Needless to say, their business model did not seem sound enough for a market that is over saturated in this “burger shop” trend. Best of luck to them in their next venture.

Sad that St. Andrew’s is re-opening with the same owner. No one wants to go in there because the owner is horrible. I’d assume that probably contributed to his inability to pay his taxes. Someday that beautiful bar will have a worthy owner.

Can we get Sabai Dee to reopen next door to Papa John’s? I still miss them.

Sorry to hear about the Pappa Johns. The Edgeville/Andersonville area is such a pizza black hole. If we have to be stuck with chains, at least make it a Lou Malnatties, etc. Not Subway & Pappa Johns.

Not a fan of Lou Malnetti’s (or Papa John’s) but with the likes of Calo, Antica Pizzeria, Pete’s, Gino’s, Tedinos, Renalli’s and Pizzeria Aroma I hardly call it a black hole!

My opinion  – just say’in. Not fond of any of the above mentioned saved for the occasional Calo’s order. Pizza pie black hole it is.

We’ll stick to Pizzeria Aroma (Berwyn/Broadway) for pizza, but good to know another closed retail space will be open and operating again.

Pizza Apart on Broadway north of Bryn Mawr = YUM.     Papa Johns = YAWN
