This Coca Cola ghost sign appeared on the wall of a building when the adjacent building at 5432 N Clark was recently torn down.   The former auto shop building was torn down to make way for a potential development that we reported on in early October.  Ghost signs are old hand painted signs or advertisements that have been preserved on a building, either on purpose or not, for a long extended time.  There are many throughout Edgewater including this, this and this one.

UPDATE:  Apparently this ghost sign has created quite the “Buzz” since appearing in Andersonville a few weeks back.  The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce has a really COOL photo of the Coca Cola advertisement from 1916 taken by the Chicago Daily News.  You can also view it here, on the American Library of Congress website (click it to enlarge it).  Ever wonder why Coca Cola cost 5cents for a bottle for almost 70 years?  Check out this article from NPR.  Thanks to the commentors on this site that pointed out the additional info!

I Googled “Coca-Cola Relieves Fatigue” and they were using that slogan in 1907. From the color of this sign the auto shop must of gone up not too long after it was painted.
