I’m a cynic by nature, but I have to admit, the CTA is doing an amazing job with these rapid transformations.

      Agreed.

At Thorndale, I wish they would have made the stairs wider. It would be safer and easier to get down the stairs while allowing those who need the handrails to use them safely. At Granville, I just cannot understand why they didn’t widen the narrow path that leads to the stairs. It is so close to the edge and I either have to wait for ever to get to the stairs while everyone walks slowly single file, or I am almost run off the platform by someone who decides they are going to pass everyone. It is an accident waiting to happen.

Maybe we’ll be luckey and you’ll fall off the platform so we won’t have to listen to you anymore.

OH MY GOD YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR PEOPLE TO WALK IN FRONT OF YOU! This is clearly a tragedy unparalleled in our time. Forget genocide in the Sudan – clearly the fact that you have to cope with other *gasp* HUMANS while riding a train and exiting a station is the real tragedy of our time.

(In other words: get over yourself. And start taking cabs.)

      • Hal

Nicely put, Chantal. Despite all the time, money and effort put into bringing these stations up to date from 50 years ago (if not more), there’s always a nitpicker.

    • Hal

I’m sure you are the first person on earth to think of these better ideas. These projects involve months, if not years, of planning that involve architects, contractors, safety experts and immense budgetary contstraints. I’m sure these entire teams of experts completely overlooked the width and safety issues, but luckily someone like you is now there to chime in. You have no idea the complexity and time it takes into tasking such a huge project with such cost limitations. Everyone wishes a project could be done better….and there’s also someone at the end of the day to complain.

Granville is hazardous. I have to agree. When someone gets hurt or killed by a train whizzing by, you all will change your tone. The train operator should wait til most passengers exit off the platform. That does not require contractors, architects, etc. It’s not a “having to wait” issue, it’s a safety issue.
But the improvements, esp Thorndale and Morse, are remarkable..
