“The Cubs Can Win It All,” Edgewater Musician Composes Cubs Victory Anthem For Charity

The Cubs have come one step closer to the 2015 National League playoffs with an amazing 8-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. It was a historic game with the Cubs nailing six home runs, a record for a post-season game.

As the Cubs continue to show great strength under pressure, they bring with them a legion of fans who want nothing more than to see the team win the World Series in their lifetime. One of those fans, a lifelong Edgewater resident named Steven Solomon (a.k.a. Skatterplot), has written a musical ode to the Cubs to celebrate this incredible year for the franchise.

The song entitled “The Cubs Can Win It All” is a victory cry from a local guy who has watched the team through the years with hopes of a World Series title. On the Bandcamp music website, you can hear the song and purchase it for just one dollar or name your own price. All proceeds go to support Cubs charities.

“Our house here in Edgewater is a three-generation Cubs fan house that my family has lived in for nearly 60 years,” Solomon said.  “My grandfather, who lives with me and my parents, is 96 years old, and I’ve always been hoping that I’ll be able to celebrate our first Cubs Worlds Series Championship with him and my dad one day. I wanted to write a song we all could sing together when that day comes.”

Solomon, 25, has been playing piano professionally for the past 15 years. He boasts having played more than 1,000 times since the age of 10 at places including Symphony Center, Pritzker Stage in Millennium Park, Jazz Showcase, Green Mill and at the Chicago Jazz Festival. His biography includes numerous awards, everything from winning first place in his high school’s (Northside College Prep) 2008 Talent Show to the Chicago Jazz Institute’s Wang Mentorship Award.

With more than 100 songs and all these accolades under his belt, this Cubs victory single is a incredibly meaningful piece for the young artist. “As a lifelong, die-hard Cubs fan and Chicago-born and -raised songwriter and musician, I wanted to give my fellow Cubs fans an upbeat song of positive thinking, that sheds all past doubts that we’ve seemed to have trouble shaking over the years,” Solomon said. “I want Cubs fans to have some new Cubs music and at the same time try to raise a little money for a good cause that’s related to the Cubs and benefits Chicagoans.”

Solomon can also be seen playing many local gigs in and around Edgewater, “I’ve performed over 1,000 times in Chicago and around the country and, of that number, probably at least a couple of hundred times (have been) right here in the Edgewater, Rogers Park and Uptown neighborhoods.”

Just listened to Steven’s song. Very catchy and inspiring. Cubs fans should check it out. Saw Steven performing over at the Edgewater Art Fair a few weeks ago, really good performer. Talent runs deep here in Edgewater.

Steve’s a great guy and a great musician. About the same age as many of the young Cub players but he’s no Rookie. “Cubs Can Win It All”.

Boy, Steve’s musical talents are endless and eclectic. An Edgewater treasure and a Chicago treasure. You forgot to mention he also played at Carnegie Hall.
