In what might be the biggest anticipated opening since Nookies, well not really, Papa John’s Pizza opened its doors yesterday after a few permit delays at the southeast corner of Balmoral and Broadway.

    Finally! I love papa johns!!

I love both Papa Johns and Places like Ranalli’s. (and other non-Edgewater places). It all depends on what kind of pizza your in the mood for. Sometimes you just don’t want the more gourmet pizzas out there, you just want a good old party style pizza, and you really can’t beat their Garlic dipping sauce, trust me, plenty of places have tried and failed.

Only they don’t delivery to most of Edgewater…….. What kind of place opens a business in a neighborhood, and then doesn’t provide service to that neighborhood population? Who are they delivering pizzas to? Andersonville residents only?

  • KP

AMH– what are their delivery boundaries?

    • Rachel

It seems like less than a one mile radius. I am really close and can’t get delivery either.

Yes, I am 1 mile away and they won’t deliver to me either. I was super excited about not having to drive to Lincoln Ave. anymore, and now I’m kinda ticked about the whole thing.

Pete’s on granville is my favorite, but I will order from papa johns. the reason is we are getting new businesses in our neighborhood and I want them to stay!

  • Nikki

I agree, it depends on what type of pizza you’re in the mood for.

Giordanos will always be my favorite deep dish. Pete’s is great because they deliver late. I love the crust on Spacca Napoli and Apart. I only get pasta from Pizzeria Aroma.

I’ve always been surprised there is no Pizza Hut that delivers to Edgewater. I order from Apart Pizza or Leonas, depending on my mood.

I spoke to the manger at the new papa Johns, and he said they wont deliver north of peterson, but there is a new papa johns going in on sheridan road near loyola that will deliver to the rest of the area. It will open in two months

I’m on Granville and was bummed to read they won’t deliver there. The guy I spoke with at the store said “yeah, it’s stupid we don’t deliver there.” Please do what I just did and file a complaint with their corporate office (1-877-547-7272). If enough willing customers get their addresses on the map, perhaps they’ll see the business they’re losing.

    • 60660Guy

I forgot to add … the person at corporate also said it may be a limited delivery range because it’s a new store so perhaps there are already plans to expand their reach. Until then, please do call!

  • “Support local business” guy

I like supporting local businesses, and I’m not a fan of the CEO slamming Obamacare and lobbying to overturn it. I like Tedinos, and they DO deliver north of Peterson.

  • gghoti

It constantly amazes me that with so many good, local pizza places in Chicago (including my favorite, Gino’s North), people still order from soulless national chains that produce really terrible pies.

  • Theresa Markham

Papa Johns is gross. I would rather not eat pizza. Why would anyone patronize that place when Pete’s, Aroma, and Apart are in delivery range?

  • Theresa Markham

and, did you know that Gulliver’s will deliver to most of Edgewater? Now there’s some good pizza.

I very much prefer Pizzeria Aroma across from the Jewel on Berwyn. One of the best-run businesses anywhere, and the food is great. (I don’t work there…just a satisfied longtime customer!)

Papa John’s target is clearly the college student’s from Loyola (who hail from the suburbs and other out-of-town locales).
