I would like FIVE BELOW to open in that space!

    Put a Gap in!

Trader Joe’s of course. Probably not big enough, though, or lacks enough parking.

    Three words: Buffalo Wild Wings

    Trader Joes

I am kinda liking the Buffalo Wild Wings idea…

I think our area could majorly support a Trader Joe’s and/or Whole Foods. Yes, there are Trader Joe’s locations in the city, and Whole Foods in the city and Evanston, but with our high population of carless folks, those other ones aren’t convenient enough for regular visits. I actually shop at the Ontario Street TJ’s more than any others because I’m down in that area usually some time on a weekend. Can’t really plan to make a special trip all the way down there to shop at TJ’s, though. Would really like to shop at one more often, and if one were just a short bus ride away, that would be awesome. Personally, I’d rather have a TJ’s nearby than a Whole Foods, but either of those would be a definite asset to the neighborhood.

If not the Blockbuster site, then how about the Clarovista (again) at Granville/Broadway? Or (with a zoning change, maybe) the Weinstein Funeral Home site on Devon? Lots of empty spots and configurations to choose from around Edgewater.

Even better, why not redevelop the old Piser Funeral Chapel site a block south(even if it inevitably means tearing down the building there), and use that for a Trader Joe’s? Must admit that I’m intrigued as heck by the idea of a BW3 in the Blockbuster site, since I’ve always have wished there were more options to eat near the Berwyn ‘L stop.

I can’t begin to stress enough the failure to redevelop the Piser site into something else, has always annoyed me. And the lack of redevelopment of the building that once housed A.W. Zengler Cleaners also needs to be addressed. Maybe then, some restaurant would finally take the place of Pepitone’s(the short-lived restaurant next door, that unfortunately didn’t stay around for long).

Bummer. I’ve been hoping this store would hold on, because that big gaping space will just really hurt! A Five Below would be good in the old Border’s space in Uptown (I think the company has actually been renting a lot of those empty spaces throughout the city). I would doubt that part of Broadway is zoned for a liquor license for Buffalo Wild Wings, but I could be wrong. Definitely more retail would be great, and a big box would provide a nice anchor! Good idea on the Gap!

  • Frank

Would be a great spot for a gay male strip club and bar.

Trader Joes. Don’t care if there’s not enough parking. Somebody make it happen.

  • Messycanvas

Before this was a Block Buster this was a Gap store…long long ago…..A PetSmart would be nice…

    • Anon

There’s a great pet store a block away!

  • Mike

A Trader Joes will not be opening in Edgewater any time soon. And if pigs fly, one would never open in a space that small with no parking.

  • Jeffreyaolson

So five below is the new dollar store. NOOOOOO!

  • Pat Davis

There’s an archtecturally beautiful old Pontiac dealer under that horrible facade.
