Andersonville has so much to offer kids, from story time at Women and Children First and the 3rd floor of the Swedish American Museum, to the great neighborhood parks at Ashland and Farragut and Ashland and Bryn Mawr. But by far the best place to dance and play is Midsummarfest, of course! We pop some noise-cancelling headphones on our daughter, then walk over to the fest and dance the evening away to some of the most fun bands in Chicago!

My favorite thing to do is get up early on the weekends and take a walk to Clark St. to get coffee.

My favorite thing to do in Andersonville is an early morning daddy-daughter breakfast at Svea and watching my 18 month old eat more than me.

My favorite thing to do with my daughter in Andersonville is Sunday brunch at one of the countless restaurants, followed by a stroll up and down Clark street. Her favorite thing to do is play at one of the many parks, especially the sandbox in Andersonville park on Ashland. (I liked the Red Balloon and Toys Et Cetera FB pages.)

We love the Brunk Children’s Immigration Museum in the Swedish American Museum. Our little dude loves to run around in there. We’re also big fans getting a coffee and heading to Andersonville Park to let him play on the swings.

** I have also liked all of the businesses on facebook.

Wednesday morning story time at Women & Children First among so many other activities! Love my neighborhood. :)

Visiting George’s ice cream with my 3 year old is a special treat because he has many food allergies, and George’s carries soy “ice cream” and also Italian ices, so we always have options for him!

I love taking my nephew over to Toys Et Cetera and spoiling him every time he’s over for a visit. I love seeing his eyes light up when he walks in!

First we run around like crazy monkeys at the Children’s Museum at Swedish American Museum, then to Ranalli’s for pizza and table art, followed by flipping a coin to see if we ‘ll go to George’s or Forever Yogurt for dessert-either one comes with gummy bears.

  • Megan Griffin

My family can’t pick just one favorite thing to do in Andersonville. My two boys love everything from the friendly shoe fittings at Alamo shoes to the perfect Huey’s hot dog to the amazing treats at the Swedish bakery. And we can’t forget our weekly trip to Edgewater Produce! We love this neighborhood!

A great day with our kids starts with breakfast at M. Henry, then off to play at the Swedish Museum. After, my son will usually beg to play with the train table at Toys Etc., so we usually indulge him.

PUPPET BIKE! My kids love it when we catch his show. Then we head to Toys Et Cetera to see what’s new and add to the never ending wish list. My son always wants to make a trip down the secret gangway entrance to Alley Cat Comics. Then its either George’s for blue ‘fruit loop’ ice cream, or to try some new creation at Forever Yogurt.

We love just strolling around the neighborhood and people watching but I’m sure my daughter’s favorite is George’s ice cream parlor. She’s just now ready to start dance lessons and we’ve been looking for the right spot, this post gave us great nearby options. Thanks!
