This is the sign that greeted unexpecting patrons at Erickson’s Delicatessen (5250 N Clark) this weekend.  We’re not sure if they’re closed for good, or just temporarily.

Owned by Ann-Marl Nilsson, she and her daughters have been serving Chicagoans from Andersonville and beyond all the fixin’s for a traditional Swedish Smorgasborg.  The deli has been open since 1925, and its not uncommon for customers to have to wait outside during the holidays and people flock here for herring, havarti, lingenberries and Knäckebröd (crisp bread).

We hope they’re not gone for good!

Sadly that sign is not new, it’s been up for at least three weeks now . . .

They had been having trouble getting some items lately, too. It would be so sad to see them go. I love popping in for hardcore Sweedish coffee and my lingenberry fix.

I tried to go shopping there once. They had lots of items from IKEA food store for twice the price. It’s sad, but I can’t do that

You can’t get fresh linginberries @ IKEA!!!

Just to let everyone know, I saw one of the owners out front last night sweeping out front. In speaking I suggested they change their sign….which they did. She did mention personal reasons but will re-open in mid-Sept. Yay!

Erickson’s is open again. After being closed for three months, the store is open for the holiday season and is, according to owners, “not going anywhere.”
