“Police were also unsure of the motive for the slaying, but court records
show that Price had dozens of arrests and five felony drug convictions
dating back to the late 1990s.”

    • chicagoborn77

and slatsg you would be just as ignorant as the news reporter i emailed stop looking for the orst in people im sure you have a few crooks or drug users in your family so dont act perfect might have seen you on A&E intervention show get a life

      • Joe

Most people DO NOT have crooks or drug users in the family…nitwit.

        • chicagoborn77

thats what they want your blind eye to thing joe some people have the means to cover those things up im sure and you might but wont know until it affects you personally

Wow, slatsg. THIS is why I have such a hard time being a part of this online ‘community’ if that’s what you call it. The comments are constantly condescending, white centered, classist. If you think the best way to curb violence on our streets is to 1) completely disregard that people in our community are PEOPLE (yes, even the ones that stand on *your* corners and the ones that have been in prison) and 2) continue gentrifying and pushing people out of our neighborhood (read: positive loitering), then you are lost and ignorant and have no real understanding of economics or poverty or the way the class system works in our neighborhood/city.

    • Anonymous

Hilarious. “Positive loitering is gentrifying. Bangers are people too. The ‘system’ led the poor lad to a life of crime.” Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, GS.

      • chicagoborn77

and id like to add he wasnt a gang member either way keep your negitive comments to yourself my aunt lost her son and his kids lost their dad have a good day

        • Robert Sheridan

Your Aunt didn’t do a very good job of raising him, did she?

          • chicagoborn77

who are you to talk you are so ignorant i cant even find the energy to tell you about your self she did a dam good job as a single parent and your mom should have swallowed your ignorant ass or mabe she just as ignorant

    • Lisa

Requiring people not shoot each other/sell drugs/tag things outside my home isn’t classist, and to name it as such is insulting to the majority of lower income folks (I’m including myself, here) who don’t engage in these behaviors. I haven’t heard anyone insist lower income people must leave the neighborhood, only that EVERYONE respect their neighbors/surroundings. To assert there must be a lower standard of behavior, with more understanding and tolerance of these behaviors, is ridiculous and insulting to both the working class and other liberals.

I have to agree, most of these so called “gang bangers” chose this way of life, because there are alternatives and help out there to assist people in need. More often than not, they are driven by pride, money, and a need to belong and sadly this is found within the gang communities. Believe it or not, there are such thing as reformed gang members out there who CHOSE to reform their lives and realized that this path was not the right way to go. In no way, shape or form are we discriminating against people in OUR neighborhood rather merely saying that we need to keep a watchful eye on each other (no matter what race, creed, or relation we are). Truth is, there are just plain, bad people out there and sadly enough the gentleman who was shot seemed to potentially be one of them. However, I could be horribly mistaken and he could have been on his way (or already) to reform, we may never know.

I just cannot stress enough that if someone sees something out of the ordinary to call police. We want to keep our neighborhood safe for all to enjoy!

    • Johnson

This is a joke, right GS? You mean to say that we need to embrace those in the community who work against what the community stands for? Classism and the economics explains but is NOT AN EXCUSE. Don’t be naive. I have done plenty of work with positive loitering so that hose who threaten a community with drugs and violence are nutralized, standing with all classes, creeds and colors. It is called improvement. Sounds like you suppirt crime. Do you?

  • The police precence always seems to spike after a shooting then after a few weeks they are no where to be found and our neighborhood keeps getting worse and worse.

Unless you’re a drug dealer or you otherwise associate with

      • Florence

Unfortunately for the suburbs, they are getting gangbangers, too.

        • Jolson16

the burbs are getting worse, certain ones, as chicago improves….
          its a trend. Parsification.

I couldn’t agree more with Clarence, Sophia. This kind of activity happens in EVERY neighborhood within the city limits of Chicago. Just in case you haven’t noticed, this is a city filled with over three million people all of which have completely different agendas in their lives. This kind of activity (gang-bangers) is nothing new to Edgewater and sadly isn’t going away anytime soon. I would highly suggest you either A) educate yourself as to how to properly approach the neighborhood, i.e. not wearing head phones after dark, staying in well-lit areas, etc. or B) as Clarence suggested move to the suburbs (just be careful as to which ones, as they have crime too).

Honestly moving isn’t going to solve your troubles if this is the neighborhood you really love. I have lived in Andersonville/Edgewater for the past 5+ years and have had my fair share of this crap, but at the end of the day this neighborhood is home and I have learned how to get around this stuff and live safely.

Enjoy suburbia, I hear there’s nothing to do after 6:00 PM.

Police can’t be on every corner, perpetually peering down every alley, every space between homes, looking into everyone’s window.

When I tell my husband these incidents he doesn’t sweat it-he figures, we live in a city, the economy is in pretty bad shape, and it’s bound to happen, that’s what he tells me. I don’t think we should move because of these thug losers you know? It’s our city too.

  • chicagoborn77

first and foremost this man while all of you are passing judgement on his was my baby cousin and yes he was a drug dealer and did his time for the things he did

    • Boxingfan272000

He was on thorndale, granville, kenmore n winthrop for the past decade. That was his drug dealing territory. Wow get a grip!

      • chicagoborn77

and your point is what you know alot so you was on the same blocks doing the same shit you are getting way off the topic at hand regardless to what he was doing it gives noone the right to say negitive things about him knowing him or not knowing him like i said keep your negitive comments to your self

  • Meredithespino

I firmly believe that, even though crime may have always been here, it doesn’t mean it has to stay here.

  • Deadmau5chicago

All I can say is that if I see any suspicious behavior at all, I always call the police….I am zero tolerant of thugs hanging around out in the street….if they are congregating out on the street, they should move right along…I’m sure they have a home…I blame parents for not knowing how to control their kids.

  • Jolson16

    chicagoborn77,gs

Societys problems will always exist, why do they have to be extremely prevalent in every neighborhood?
Yes we dont want these types of problems on the northside by the lake. If you are a plague on society
you dont always get to live in a cool neighborhood. Gentrification is occuring, its true, its the law of supply and demand.
Im sure there will always be some low income housing around here though.
The guy who was shot had a rap sheet that was impressive, eventually when you engage in such behavior
your luck will run out. I

  • Boxingfan272000

Really??? He wasnt a gangbanger??? C’mon Chicagoborn77, be honest with yourself Aaron or Bryd as you better know him has been in those streets for almost 15 years!. Im not saying he deserved to die as I dont believe anyone should die like that, but as the saying goes “you live by the sword, you die by the sword.” I hate when I see people down right lie about someone just because they are dead. Dont try to save his name now. How many people did he shot at or kill that we are not mentioning here. He wasnt an upstanding citizen, so lets keep it real. RIP & prayers to his family

    • chicagoborn77

that man was 32 at the time of his death and at that point in life he wasnt involved in any gang or drug activites get your facts straight and if you knew him so well you would know that and its not about his past its about what he was doing now and that was being a father to his children aand i also was in the streets just as long but some people change for the better in which he did and since yo know so much how many did he shoot at or kill ?
