“Mi dispiace, io non parlo inglese.”

I’m sorry, but I don’t speak english. In Italian. Works every time.

They are out and about on Clark so often that I find it hard to go grab a sandwich or take my dog for a walk without someone asking me for money. And on top of that, when I say I don’t have time to talk to them (which 9 times out of 10 is true), many of them argue with me or plead their case that they’re a great organization (as I’m walking away), which I’m sure they are. But that doesn’t change the fact that I’d like to go to and fro in my life without continually being bothered by people I have no interest in talking to.

My suggestion to solicitors – just stand there, don’t approach. We can see that you’re with an organization, we know you want money. If we want to talk to you, we will stop or make eye contact or say hello. If we don’t engage you in any way, that means we want to be left alone. Read our body language and act accordingly. Hard sales NEVER work, they just p*ss people off.
