Bags are made from petroleum. They drive up the cost of recycling because of contaminants. They clog drains, get stuck in sewers and are a hazard to wild life. And even if they are 100% recyclable, I doubt you’re tossing them in the blue bin after you fill them with your dogs poo.

Well, they are 100% recyclable and usually already made out of recycled materials and typically have other uses such as the litter box and dog walking. And they are far more environmentally friendly than driving to the grocery store 2 times per week vs once if you happened to forget your bags.

And if they say it’s because of the litter, why not ban cigarettes, glass, new papers, aluminum cans, McDonalds wrappers, etc.??

There is not a damn thing wrong with plastic bags. They are very convenient. I am getting tired of government acting like a nanny. Thanks again city council for making life more inconvenient for me. I’ll remember you at election time.

Paper or plastic are not the only options. It would really be better if you used reusable bags for your groceries. Just sayin’.

Not a fan of this change. If I walk to the grocery store (e.g. Jewel Osco) and I have to carry items back, plastic bags are much more convenient than paper bags. Especially in wet weather! Furthermore, I use the plastic bags as a trash can liner for my bathroom. Other people also use the bags to clean up after their dogs poop.
