All good and thanks for your input. I just don’t see it as any different from any other gym. When I go to the Bucktown Cheetah, I notice the girls getting ogled much more then guys at Andersonville. I really think the community at Cheetah is so friendly. I have met many friends there through the years.

I do know Cheetah Andersonville is getting a lot of new equipment in the next month and Bucktown received theirs about 6 months ago. Edgewater got all new cardio. I was blown away when I saw how much this equipment is to replace. Some machines are as much as a Harley but I rarely see equipment down for more than a day or so. Maybe one day you can give it another chance, always nice to see new and old faces.

The cruising is rather pronounced at that Cheetah location, to the degree that I stopped going in part because of it. That and their poorly maintained equipment. I’d venture to say there aren’t a lot of straight men chasing after other dudes there

At any rate, I didn’t intend deride or reduce anyone specific. It’s just my observation after spending quite a bit of time there.

Andersonville Cheetah does have a strong LGBT population as opposed to the other 2 locations which have a straighter clientele- but who cares. You just reduced all the straight men, me and every other Gay man at Cheetah into this stereotype and it is very much not appreciated. I don’t do that and most other people don’t as well. However, it does happen though and cruising and ogling does go on at straighter clubs too (both men and women). It comes with the territory.

Cheetah Gym…it’s essentially a gay bar with workout equipment. Want to get aggressively cruised and ogled left and right while trying to work out? Cheetah is the place!

I agree. I don’t see how the mental state of a manager who hasn’t been there in many years has any bearing on anything. It’s completely irrelevant and was clearly just mentioned because Mike is a gossip who thinks it’s ok to judge people for having an illness. What a d*ck.

Both gyms are fantastic and I think we are lucky to have them in the hood. Not to mention you are putting some of your dollars back into the local economy by supporting small business. Kudos Ryan!

About 3 years ago, I did a pre-paid one year membership at Cheetah Edgewater. The gym was pretty good with a lot of cardio and strength training equipment. However, for the cost of membership, I would have expected other things such as access to a Sauna or Pool. I’m now a happy member at the newly opened Edgewater Fitness Center!

I remember, and I was very happy to see them reopen. Mental illness is a serious issue and affects many people who live with it daily. However that was a few years ago and I am sure the new owner would like to move on and talk about the 15 year celebration and what they have in store for the future which includes new equipment in a few weeks at Andersonville. What is even more amazing is the owner has been suffering from mental illness for years with extreme paranoia almost resulting in the entire place closing down. You should write about that. It’s a lot more interesting.
