In an effort to calm traffic on Balmoral Avenue in the Lakewood Balmoral neighborhood, the Chicago Department of Transportation has installed bump-outs at the intersections that do not have roundabouts.

ON the subject of speeding cars in areas with heavy pedestrian traffic (a.k.a. residentical streets) when will we ever get speed bumps on the 1500 Block of Thorndale? I’ve lobbied several times. We have 19 children under the age of 9 on our block (and I have no idea how many beloved dogs), but people use our block as a race track from Senn/Greenview to Clark Street. I hope and pray that there will never be a tragedy which will have be begging on my hands and knees for some way to SLOW that traffic.

we need bump outs, pedestrian blinking lights, some of those handy “Stop when pedestrians present” and fresh crosswalk hatches at the intersection of Magnolia and Hollywood… if not a light and speed bumps. I see little old ladies, parents with strollers and ordinary walkers get honked at and nearly hit at all hours of the day when BMW and Mercedes drivers speed past there.

These bump-outs won’t do anything, what they should do is place speed bumps at the stop signs instead, that will definitely force people to stop or at least really slow down.

roundabouts are the idea for those side streets. and pits. lots of pits. With snakes in them. I mean.. we already have the pits…the city calls them potholes though. :)

These bump outs certainly are an improvement over those dangerous speed humps.

What happened to the mythical stop light at Broadway & Balmoral. Was promised a year ago, with installation scheduled for this past Spring. Today…nothing yet. I know, let’s have a meeting!!
